Prep Week #1 ~ Happy New Year
New Years was a great time at the Tassinari's (as always) with all the old friends. Here's Luke & I after a few games of beer pong (thanks for the pic Kathleen). It's mind blowing how fast time is flying as I see most of my friends married and multiple kids. HA. I love it. God bless ya.
As for the hike, the New Years party reconnected me with my buddy Shawn. I didn't realize the depth of his hiking & camping gear knowledge. We talked at length about my gear approach for the A.T. A couple days later, he sent me a fantastic outline of his gear recommendations. I have seen lots of these online, but I especially like his recommendations because he has a very similar approach to gear that I have... LIGHT + COMFORT + DRY. So, I'm taking some good stock in his info. Thanks Shawn!
Other progress... Buying up and taste-testing light and calorie packed foods for my pre-hike mail drop boxes. I made a visit to REI this week and looked long and hard at gear, with Shawn's list in-hand. I purchased some Ex-Officio & Under Armour synthetic boxer briefs for workout testing. I'm hearing good things on both sides about them and the UA's were good. The Ex-O's will be tested soon. I purchased some blue Superfeet for testing as well. Workouts continue... I'm down 3+ lbs since I arrived in MA.
Speaking of time flying... You'll notice I added a countdown for the hike to the blog. This is great for me as I am planning out what needs to be done to get ready.
