Jul 15 - Vermont

DAY #118
START LOCATION: VT-9/Arlington, VT
FINISH LOCATION: Goddard Shelter
TODAY'S MILEAGE: 10.1
TRIP MILEAGE: 1,611.4
MILES TO GO: 567.7

What a great zero yesterday. My aunt Sandy and uncle Jeff G. came up to join us. My dad smoked some delicious ribs, we played some cutthroat games of ladder ball and we generally got silly. With laundry and resupply done, we were able to really enjoy the evening.

This morning we all rode up to Manchester Center, VT for some breakfast sans uncle Jeff M. who had to go to work. It was all good though... We all went to visit him at Long Trail Auto where he works. A nice finish to a fun and relaxing hiker weekend.

Smoke and I said our goodbyes to my dad and Panda around noon and hit the trail by 12:30. It was a sluggish start. Smoke and I stopped and took breaks at 1.5 and 3 miles in. I was definitely dragging, but Smoke got me motivated and we cranked out the deer fly infested climbs up to Goddard Shelter just shy of Glastenbury Mountain. We passed quite a few familiar faces coming up who are doing the Long Trail or section AT hikes.

It's a gorgeous night up at 3,500 feet. The bugs are minimal, the air is cool and the daylight clouds have given way to a clear dusk. It should be a great sleep to set us up for a big 19 tomorrow.

Thanks again to Jeff M., Sandy, Jeff G., Panda and my dad Clarke for making this such a great hiker break for Smoke and I. We had a blast.
