Jul 18 - Vermont

DAY #121
START LOCATION: Bromley Shelter
FINISH LOCATION: Greenwall Shelter
TODAY'S MILEAGE: 22.6
TRIP MILEAGE: 1,666.0
MILES TO GO: 513.1

We had nasty thunderstorms at Bromley last night. They were uncomfortably close to Smoke and I's tentsite But, they were gone by morning. Its the perfect time for nature to drop rain on us... When we're sleeping. We got up late due to the storm abbreviated sleep. The shelterers did too. We all packed up around the same time and hit the trail as a group around 9:15. The group was Fred, Lou, Mimi, Smokestack and I.

We summitted Bromley around 10 or so. It was really cool because the AT sends you up the middle of a ski trail for the last .3 of the summit. Then, the whole summit view and ski infrastructure is there to explore. We checked out the warming hut, the ski lift and a nice observation deck affording 360 degree views of the Green Mountains. As we headed down the backside of the mountain at 10:30, our buddy Nobody was pulling into the summit as well. He jumped on our bandwagon and we hiked 6 deep for the rest of the day.

The terrain was pretty cool today. Lots of sweet smelling hemlock forests and some beautiful vistas. Vermont has lots of shelters... We passed 6 of them just to get to Greenwall.

We were all bent with one particular Green Mountain Club caretaker. She thought the water source was dry here at Greenwall and recommended hauling water from a brook 3 miles shy. This made for a miserable hike at the end of the day, just to find a whole slew of water sources here. What a waste. Oh well, what can you do?

Smoke and I will continue our push to Rutland tomorrow. We're very excited to experience the Long Trail Inn.
