Road Trip Update 3 - Aug 8-9

Wow. As if my blog column wasn't already narrow enough... now I'm squeezing pictures in there too.  Eh, I'll enjoy the technology while I can... before I revert back to the tiny iphone notepad screen and text only blog posts you usually see.  i.e... don't get used to this! HA

I cruised down the "Pacific Coast Scenic Byway" on Sunday August 8.  This road is US-101 tightly squeezed against the Oregon coast. It was unbelievable scenery. I thought the California coast was gorgeous... Oregon trumps it. I lucked out on the weather too.  The morning fog lifted and I had mostly sunny skies all day.  The goal was to make it to the California border by sundown while seeing as much Oregon oceanfront as I could.  I essentially met the goal but stayed overnight in Brookings, OR a few miles shy of the border.  I strongly urge anyone to make this drive. There's tons to see, do and eat. I wished I'd been able to spend more time... but so goes life.

The next morning, August 9, I was on the road by 5:30 AM. I had another 400 miles to cover to get to San Francisco where I'd be staying with my good friends Sarah and Gene.  I also wanted to see a bunch of coastal sights as well.  I had some foggy coast in the morning and just as the fog lifted, 101 veered away from the coast.  No problem. This afforded some nice views of Redwood National Park and the BIG Redwood trees.  But, I was looking for some coastal action.  So, when US-1 began in Leggett, CA, I followed it's hairpins 20 miles to the ocean again.  This serpentine route took so long that I was only able to spend about 25 miles along the coast to Fort Bragg before I had to jump back on the 101 and haul ass to SF.  It was gorgeous driving once again. Like yesterday, I wished I could have spent more time, but it was all good. I had a blast and loved seeing this new part of the country.

I cruised into San Fran where I met with Sarah, Gene and my other friends Mira and Stephan.  It was great... hit a few bars and had some amazing sushi at Sushi Bistro in the Inner Richmond section of San Francisco.  Sushi Bistro sound familiar?  Nope, it didn't to me either.  But, if it did... This is probably why. If you are not afraid of eating any raw sea creatures like we are... I highly recommend allowing your chef choose for you.  You'll get a lot of great off menu items.  OK, enough about food.

Have a fast 450 miles to Southern California to meet my new nephew next... and sadly say goodbye to my rental I've become so attached to... I mean look at it... it's too much fun...

  2. It was amazing. I wished I could have spent more time there. Gives me an excuse to do it again tho! Back on the trail 8/18 or 8/19. Oh and I had people tailgating me on the 5 in LA to take a pic of my rear window mascot. HA
