I'm ready...
The backpack is stuffed, the bills are paid, the 4Runner is gassed up and the women-and-children are in bed. Let's do this...
With all the time I've spent dreaming, researching and prepping for this adventure, I will consider my first step I take on the approach trail as a huge success. (and yes, the "approach trail". It's the all-day 8.5 mile hike I'm taking just to reach the start of the Appalachian Trail!). I'm having trouble containing my excitement right now.
The plan now... I'm wrapping up loose ends at home and then it's out to dinner with the family tonight. Tomorrow morning... the ol' man and I begin the drive to the AT approach trail in Dawsonville, GA. We'll have stops in Germantown, MD tomorrow night and Gainesville, GA on Monday. Then, on Tuesday morning, the fun begins. The weather I'm expected to experience on Tuesday morning? High of 36 with a rain/snow showers, chance of 50%. How's that for a Welcome to the trail!. HA.
