TRIP MILEAGE: 1,996.4
MILES TO GO: 182.7
After my late dinner, I passed out so quickly that I found I'd left the lights and all my clothes on when I awoke around 3AM. The sleep was fantastic. I'm glad I pushed into town... It rained hard overnight. I went to the small grocery across the street and got my breakfast and resupply. I slowed my getting-ready-to-hike activities way down after that and checked out near 11AM. I felt my 21.5 push into Stratton yesterday would limit my body today. I planned the 5 mile push to Horns Pond as a result. The 11AM check out coincided with the opening of the White Wolf Cafe. I enjoyed a burger and fries as other hikers including Michael J. moseyed in from
Crocker Cirque Campsite.
I caught a hitch from a local gardener... Yep, she gardens for a living. She was very nice and we talked up our hiking adventures. When I hit the trail, my body didn't want to hike. I took lots of time getting to Horns Pond... 5 miles in 3 hours over pretty easy terrain. It was nice not to push like I did the day before. I met Two Rings there and we discussed our adventures getting off Crocker. He also was faced with little water and had to get into town as well. We met the caretaker who had sectioned around the same time and spots as moved through the south earlier this year. He'd met lots of the same people I knew. Nice guy and a very educated caretaker.
Two Rings and I are going to stay in this shelter until the weather breaks tomorrow... Sometime late morning they're saying. Then I'll play it by ear how far I go... I'm 13 miles ahead of schedule. I also spoke with the Dogfather. It's fully on at Katahdin for the 17th... Two weeks til I finish my thru-hike.
