Met a new thru hiker last night... Long Shanks. He, Smoke and I all
left the Furnace at 9AM. We cruised up the first climb pretty
quickly... It was very hot and humid all ready. We stopped at a vista
about 3 miles in and up popped Devo and Zen. They were slackpacking 27
miles from Port Clinton. At the end of our break, up rolled Mimi. So,
shattering the record of most thu-hikers I've platooned with... Six of
us. We hiked this way all the way to Allentown Shelter about 16 miles
in. Zen and Devo pushed on while Mimi, Smoke, Long Shanks and I
decided to push 4 more miles to a bar and grill for dinner. There I
had a French dip, cheese fries, an apple dumpling, ice cream and
beers. It was a great din din. Lots of laughs all around... Long
shanks is a riot and lots of great stories were thrown around.
The four of us pushed another 2 miles to this dumpy campsite. It's
still hot and humid out... I doubt I'll even need a sleeping bag
tonight.
