the rain took the sting off the bittersweet departure. We were faced
with a critical decision as soon as we departed... Head northerly via
I-10 to stay with the incomparable Steve Rae in Flagstaff or stay
southerly and miss freezing roads and snow. We went the safe route and
headed to Phoenix. It was a bummer to have to tell Pop we weren't
going to make it. It was the right choice though. Chains on the
tires, a v6 and a fully loaded cargo trailer would have been a
nightmare.
We made great time all day, got ahead of the rain and saw some killer
Arizona landscape. All of us held up well including Shelby. We bedded
down in Casa Grande, AZ and ate dinner at McMashers Sports Bar and
Grill. We had a few beers, watched some Coyotes hockey, Suns B-ball,
the Heisman presentation and decided to call it a night around 9. We
put 420 miles behind us today, but that's a bit slow. The goal is 600
tomorrow which would put us a bit shy of Odessa, TX.
Really excited to visit New Mexico for the first time tomorrow and
cross another state visited off the list... Especially if it can beat
this Arizona desert sunset.
Nate
