Five inches of snow all told last night. Got most of it off the tent
and stowed it without taking too much snow along, which was nice.
Today was supposed to be only 20% chance of snow, but it was falling
all day.
Headed out of the injun at 1045... Snow and daylight savings slowed me
down. But today was a planned shorter day... Tomorrow will be another
big push. Had my most treacherous trail condition yet... A large tree
serving as a bridge over a big river was cracked in half and covered
in 3" of snow. I wished I'd taken a pic of it. But I was too focused
on not falling in a river to get all touristy. Anyway, I made it
across but I'm convinced it'll take out some poor schlep really soon.
Got to Carter Gap pretty quick and Research and Scruffy arrived a few
minutes later. They had planned on staying, but Research has a drop in
Wallace Gap and wanted to position himself better for that. Scruffy
went on too for the buddy system factor. In any case, I'll be
catching them tomorrow night. Saw in the register that Phinneas is a
day ahead and got word that Swiftie is a day plus behind. Maybe
Franklin will reunite what Hiawassee separated.
Another big push tomorrow and then the next day into Franklin for
resupply and a nero. Really packing on the miles and the days are
flying by now. Less snow and life will be perfect. The cold and poor
service is killing my battery. We may miss a day of blog updates, but
hopefully not.
Sidenote... On 3/15, Happy 59th birthday tomorrow to my ol' man...
literally. Ha!

The Ol' Man says Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen any wildlife during your hike? Having visited the Shenandoah Mountains several times, I have seen several black bears and far too many deer. Would be interesting to know what you have seen along the trail. ~~Christen
ReplyDeleteSwiftie a day and a half behind? Sounds like a misnomer to me.
