FINISH LOCATION: Neels Gap/Walasi-Yi
TODAY'S MILEAGE: 3.7
TRIP MILEAGE: 30.7
MILES TO GO: 2,148.4
After last nights blog post, I laid down in my tent and within moments
I saw the silhouette of a field mouse outside. That did it, I popped
two advil pm and was out cold.
Slept awesome, had breakfast with the two dudes and the kid and took
it easy. They were riots. Weather was gorgeous. Meandered out of camp
at 11:30am for the steep but short climb up Blood Mountain. Wow... At
4,400 feet, it's the highest peak so far and fantastic views. Being
Saturday, there were tons of cub scouts, day hikers, teenagers,
section hikers and Mennonites out there. It was great to see lots of
people finally and being in the south, everyone was really nice and
hospitable.
Slogged down the muddy trail to Neels Gap where my hostel and resupply
point are... Called walasi-yi. No idea what it means. I got the 13th
of 16 bunk spots so just in the nick of time. Washed my laundry,
bought more food, took a shower and had a great stir fry dinner by the
hostel mom, Miss Janet. Checked in with a bunch of fam & friends on
the phone which was great. Looking forward to a good nights sleep
(indoors on a mattress) and starting out fresh in the morning.
