DAY #5
START LOCATION: Neels Gap/Walasi-Yi
FINISH LOCATION: Low Gap Shelter
TODAY'S MILEAGE: 10.8
TRIP MILEAGE: 41.5
MILES TO GO: 2,137.6
Awesome sleep last night and Miss Janet made biscuits, gravy and eggs.
Phenomenal. With no tent to break down and my pack completely ready
when I woke up, I was on the trail by 830. There were some nice vistas
over the 10.8 miles to Low Gap. Met two trail maintainers with
hacksaws and all. Really nice guys. I asked them if the snow had made
them more busy with all the blowdowns and all. They said they were
less busy because they couldn't get up the roads. Typical terrain
lately... a mix of snow and mud.
Got to Low Gap nice and early and laughed my ass off with Swift, Slo
mo, Research, Doc and Mikey No Pants. Swift is this multi thru hike
stoner that is a freaking riot. Seriously... I was pissing my pants. I
can't get into anything he was telling... all of it traipsing between
R, X and NC-17. His itinerary matches mine over the next 3 days, so
I'm looking forward to some hilarity.
Got a relatively easy day tomorrow. I'm hoping my second night in a
shelter will be a bit warmer. Should be, it's not bad tonight since
we're in the "Low Gap"
